BACOLOD City – Barangay Estefania was recognized for its “outstanding performance” in rabies control and prevention in 2016.
It received a Plaque and a Certificate of Recognition from the Regional Rabies Prevention and Control Committee of the Department of Agriculture Region 18.
Estefania had been aggressively vaccinating all dogs in the village against rabies and impound the stray ones, said barangay health aide Sulpicio Labanza Jr.
Aside from the monthly massive antirabies vaccination, the barangay also complies with City Ordinance No. 544, which requires enclosures or fenced yards for pet dogs as a preventive measure against animal bites, said Labanza.
Estefania was given the plaque and certificate during ceremonies in a hotel on March 30.
Meanwhile the Sangguniang Panlungsod asked the Department of Education, through City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas, to organize educational and social activities to strengthen rabies prevention education.
Such activities shall also “disseminate information on responsible ownership, immunization and vaccination of pets,” the city council said./PN
