BACOLOD City – Ninety-eight scholars of the provincial government of Negros Occidental graduated from different colleges and universities.
Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr. was “very happy with their achievements,” said Karen Dinsay, head of the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program (NOSP) Division.
Twenty-two of the graduates received academic honors and distinctions “after four to five years of hard work and perseverance,” she added.
“I hope their achievements will serve as an inspiration to other student-grantees,” said Dinsay.
The 98 scholars included the following:
* 48 under the District Educational Scholarship
* 19 under the Pagkaon Scholarship
* 14 under Indigenous Peoples program
* six under the Degree Completion Scholarship
* 10 under the Provincial Educational Assistance for Capitol Employees; and
* one under the Best of Negros program.
Dinsay said the NOSP scholars who graduated with honors will be given medals of excellence, certificates of recognition, and cash incentives.
Ira Tabino of Cauayan town, a grantee of the District Educational Scholarship, graduated summa cum laude with a degree of Bachelor of Elementary Education at Central Philippines State University (CPSU)-Cauayan and will receive P15,000.
Jan Lee Gumban of CPSU-Kabankalan City, Greg Tampus of Philippine Normal University in Cadiz City, and Daphnie Yhen Abadies and Ronan Jay Alob, both of CPSU-San Carlos City, graduated magna cum laude and will receive P10,000 each.
Those who graduated cum laude and will receive P5,000 each are Willy Boy Garcia, Josephine Batusin, Marry Ann Guanco, Mary Ann Lopez, Inah Dawn Maestrecampo, all of Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC)-Fortune Towne; Christine Joy Escutin, and Quincy Ann Violanda of CHMSC-Talisay; Meriam Cañete from CPSU-San Carlos; Almer Tayactac from PNU; Christian Loberas and Irish Mae Zerna of West Visayas State University-Himamaylan Extension.
Special awardee Jireh de los Reyes of CHMSC-Alijis will get P2,000.
Grantees of Pagkaon Scholarship Julito Manlangit Jr. of Northern Negros State College of Science and Technology graduated magna cum laude, while Cheyen Belnas and Camille Cahilig of CPSU-Kabankalan graduated cum laude.
Avelyn Marañon, personnel of Negros Occidental Language and Information Technology Center, will receive P15,000 for graduating with high academic distinction in Master of Public Administration and Governance at University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos. (PNA/PN)
