ILOILO City – The death of two Capiz high-value drug suspects could somehow reduce the supply of shabu in that province, according to the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6).
Charles Lubao and Jaime Buaron II alias “Kimboy”, both residents of Roxas City, were shot by policemen in Barangay Tuburan, Zarraga, Iloilo on Saturday.
“To a certain extent, the illegal drugs in Capiz and even in Iloilo will drop,” said Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles, regional police director.
Operatives of the Iloilo Police Provincial Office’s Provincial Drug Enforcement Unit (PDEU) recovered from Lubao and Buaron 21 small sachets of shabu and two big ones.
“We will not stop our antidrug operations targeting more high-value targets through the Oplan Double Barrel Reloaded,” said Gentiles.
Policemen are not after making a higher body count in the war against drugs but they won’t hesitate to shoot if their lives are in danger, he stressed.
Lubao was armed with a pistolized M16 rifle and tried to shoot the undercover police officer who bought from him a sachet of shabu while Buaron had a hand grenade he threatened to lob at the police officer’s backup.
PDEU carried out the buy-bust around 12:20 p.m. on Saturday.
“We need to protect ourselves against any threat during the lawful operations,” said Gentiles.
Lubao and Buaron died of multiple gunshot wounds.
On April 3, Lubao was subjected to a buy-bust operation in Barangay Tiza, Roxas City but managed to escape from the police, according to Senior Superintendent Samuel Nacion, Capiz police director.
Lubao formed his drug group just this February, added Nacion.
“Lubao fired shots at our men while fleeing onboard a Toyota Innova,” said the director.
The Innova was recovered in Carles, Iloilo./PN
