KALIBO, Aklan – This year’s first four months gave Boracay Island P20.915 billion tourism receipts, according to the Aklan Provincial Tourism Office (APTO).
Tourism receipts generated from foreign visitors and overseas Filipinos were P14,481,964,972.80 while P6,433,471,881.90 came from domestic tourists.
The island resort ranked seventh in the “2017 Traveler’s Choice Award among Asia’s Top 10 islands” by TripVisor.
It also placed fourth in the “The World’s Friendliest Islands’ of 2016” list of Travel+Leisure magazine.
According to APTO, from January to April of 2017 Boracay Island attracted 744,704 tourists, a 10.84 percent increase from last year’s 671,876 tourists for the same period.
Foreign tourists listed reached 364,142 while domestic or local tourists numbered 360,461. Overseas Filipino visitors, on the other head, reached 20,101.
The highest number of visitors was recorded in the month of April with 233,233 due to the Lenten season and start of summer vacation, as well as the Labor Day break dubbed LaBoracay, which started April 25 until May 1, said PTO
