KALIBO, Aklan – With the intense heat the province of Aklan is experiencing, the Provincial Health Office warned the public against diseases that could be acquired this summer season.
Dr. Victor Santamaria, provincial health officer, said that during summer, many illnesses and conditions are emerging such as sore eyes, cough and colds, dehydration, skin diseases like sun burn and prickly heat, and stomach ailments.
“During these hot summer months, vomiting and diarrhea are common. Everybody should be cautious with the food they consume. Food could be easily spoiled due to the warm temperature,” Santamaria said.
He also added that heat stroke, which is a serious condition, should be watched out this season.
To avoid these diseases and conditions, the provincial health officer advised the public to avoid too much exposure to the sun, especially between 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
“If it could not be avoided, especially if having a vacation at the beach, make sure to put protection on your skin, like applying sun block,” Santamaria said.
Summer diseases could be likewise prevented by drinking 8 to 12 glasses of water, according to Sta. Maria. (PIA-Aklan/PN)
