BACOLOD City – The Department of Education (DepEd) Negros Island Region director wants to get an update on the investigation into a teacher in Barangay Granada who was accused of sleeping with his students.
Gilbert Sadsad directed City Schools Division Superintendent Cynthia Demavivas to submit the following: names of the members of the Division Fact-finding Committee that investigated the case, written reply of the concerned teacher, and the findings and recommendation of the committee.
The Sangguniang Panlungsod recently asked Sadsad, through a resolution, for an update on the administrative complaint filed against Robert de Tomas, a Science and Citizenship Advancement Training teacher at the Fr. Gratian Murray Integrated School.
Sadsad informed Councilor Ana Marie Palermo that he has submitted the incident report from the DepEd Division of Bacolod City to the office of Undersecretary Albert Muyot, in charge of legal matters. He said he is just now waiting for the documents he requested from Demavivas.
Earlier Emelyn Pagunsan, 37, of Barangay Alangilan complained about de Tomas before the DepEd – Bacolod City.
She believes the teacher was sleeping with her 16-year-old Grade 10 daughter.
De Tomas allegedly allowed his female students to sleep in his house in Barangay Granada.
Criminal and administrative charges may be filed against de Tomas if there is solid evidence of any wrongdoing.
The teacher may be held liable for violation of the Special Protection of Children Against Abuse, Exploitation and Discrimination Act, Senior Police Officer 4 Arlene Torendon previously said.
De Tomas’ possible administrative liability will depend on the investigation of the DepEd, said Torendon, officer-in-charge of the Bacolod City Police Office’s Women and Children Protection Desk.
Pagunsan lodged the complaint after her daughter failed to come home and when she found out that the latter slept in De Tomas’ house./PN
