CENTRAL Philippine University Golden Lions gained a quarterfinal seat in the 2017 Isuzu 17 and Under Girls Volleyball League on Wednesday at the Iloilo Doctors’ College Gymnasium in Iloilo City.
Golden Lions, led by Euna Gene Piosca, Eunice Guevarra and Chrisann Susbilla, completed the sweep in the Bracket C with a 25-8, 25-9 win over Hua Siong.
La Paz National High School (2-1) is also assured of the second quarterfinals seat in Bracket C regardless of the result of its match against the Barangay Black 17 late Thursday.
Hua Siong, meanwhile, ended its campaign in the tournament with a 2-2 win-loss record after scoring a 25-16, 25-15 victory over Barangay Black 17 (0-3) in its final assignment.
Iloilo City National High School (3-0) is also close to clinching a quarterfinals slot after maintaining its lead in Bracket B with a 25-15, 25-17 victory over Fort San Pedro National High School (0-4).
But City High will have to defeat University of San Agustin (USA) late Thursday to bag the seat. Santa Barbara stayed at No. 2 with 3-1 after beating the USA, 25-22, 25-21.
Over at Bracket A, Ramon Avanceña National High School (RANHS) scored a 25-16, 25-17 win over Pavia. RANHS and Ateneo De Iloilo were set to figure in a virtual knockout match on Thursday to determine who will occupy the second quarterfinals seat.
The volleyball league — made possible through the cooperation of the Iloilo City government, Isuzu Corp. in Iloilo and Akari Philippines — will take a break today before resuming with the quarterfinals and the semifinals on Saturday./PN
