BACOLOD City – All barangays were urged to hold an “intensified information and education campaign” on dengue.
Villagers must destroy mosquito breeding places, the Sangguniang Panlungsod said in a resolution authored by Councilor Em Ang.
As of May 16, the city has 286 cases of dengue with four deaths, records from the City Health Office (CHO) showed.
Dengue cases in Bacolod from January 1 to May 6 this year rose 112 percent from the 146 cases recorded in the same period last year, according to the CHO’s Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit.
Among the barangays, Handumanan had the highest number of cases during the period this year with 30, followed by Mansilingan with 25, and Alijis, Mandalagan, Estefania, and Granada with 20 each.
Preventive measures must be taken. Every barangay must be proactive in controlling the rise of dengue cases, said Ang.
“It is incumbent upon the city government, through the City Health Office, to act before dengue becomes a health crisis,” she added.
Barangays Villamonte and Sum-ag posted 18 dengue cases each from January to May 6, CHO records showed.
Tangub had 17 cases; Taculing, 16; Banago, 12; Singcang-Airport and Vista Alegre, 11 each; Pahanocoy, eight; Barangay 1, seven; barangays 2 and Bata, four each; barangays 37, 23, 27,
35, and Cabug, two each; and barangays 9, 13, 8, 33, 18, 28, 6, 40, 7, 16, 17, 29, 10, 31, and Felisa, one each./PN
