ILOILO City – The provincial government of Guimaras withdrew its complaint against the Iloilo Ferry Terminal (formerly Guimaras-Iloilo Ferry Terminal).

“The case is now deemed terminated,” said City Administrator Hernando Galvez yesterday.

Regional Trial Court, Branch 65 in Jordan, Guimaras was handling the provincial government’s petition for declaratory relief and injunction. On April 28, 2017 Presiding Judge Rosario Abigail M. Dris-Villanueva granted the province’s motion to withdraw.

The ferry terminal is a joint venture of DoubleDragon Properties Corp. and the city government of Iloilo.

The provincial government of Guimaras sought legal action in 2016 contending, among others, that Guimarasnons were bypassed, thereby resulting to, among others, a steep terminal fee and the possible closure of the two existing wharves (Parola and Ortiz) serving people going to the island province.

Last year, the Sia family/Injap Group, principal shareholder in DoubleDragon Properties Corp., decided to adopt the ferry terminal and shoulder the terminal fee.

Subsequently, according to Galvez, Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog sought out Gov. Samuel Gumarin of Guimaras so that the ferry terminal could finally operate.

This April, the ferry terminal held a two-day dry run. Normal operations followed.

“Considering nga wala na terminal fee, ang Guimaras nag-withdraw sang kaso,” said Galvez.
