ILOILO City – Two suspected drug dealers were arrested in Pavia, Iloilo over the past three days.
Yesterday a balut vendor was caught in Deca Homes Subdivision in Barangay Pandac, while on Thursday a soft drink company supervisor was nabbed in Barangay Amparo, authorities said.
Oliver Estandarte sold to an undercover agent of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) a sachet of shabu for P1,000 around 10 a.m. yesterday in Lot 11, Block 27, Phase 2 of Deca Homes.
PDEA agents and Pavia police station officers further seized from Estandarte 37 sachets of shabu weighing around 8 grams and valued at P80,000.
The suspect was “supplying to street drug dealers,” said Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela, municipal police chief.
Pinuela clarified that Estandarte was not in the Pavia police station’s list of drug personalities.
Estandarte was getting his supply from Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district and was using the balut business as a front, police said, citing intelligence information.
Officers have yet to determine whether the suspect — detained at the PDEA Region 6 lockup facility — was operating individually or affiliated with a bigger drug group.
Two days earlier, the 49-year-old Armando Acorantes, a resident of Barangay Aganan, Pavia, was arrested.
Police identified the suspect as a logistics supervisor for the Coca-Cola FEMSA Philippines, Inc. plant, also in Pavia.
Acorantes sold a sachet of shabu to a poseur buyer around 5:30 p.m. Seven more sachets were seized from him. All the items were worth P45,000, police said.
Acorantes was surveilled for more than a month before his arrest. He was detained at the Pavia police station.
He got his supply from Bacolod City, said Pinuela. “The suspect used his Pajero for his illegal [drug] activities.”
Both Estandarte and Acorantes were facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
