ILOILO City – A 16-year-old drug pushing suspect was arrested in Barangay San Jose Ward, Pototan, Iloilo on Saturday.
The youngster turned out to be a son of a former barangay captain of Intaluan, Pototan whom the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) in Western Visayas caught in February this year for a kilo of shabu worth P8 million.
The Pototan police recovered from the son of detained drug suspect Ramon Platon a sachet of shabu.
Six more were seized from the youngster and his friend, the 18-year-old John Angelo Calapillo of Barangay Tombcon, Pototan, according to Senior Inspector Bonifacio Alabe, municipal police chief.
The two lads were taken to the municipal police station around 11:30 a.m. Both were Grade 10 students at Pototan National High School.
Alabe believed the son took over the father’s illegal drug activities.
Citing intelligence reports, Alabe said the son was also a drug user.
The suspect’s father is currently detained at the Iloilo District Jail in Barangay Nanga, Pototan.
“Imagine kung hindi namin nakuha ang one kilo. Many of our brothers and sisters will be adversely affected. Maraming mga addicts ang makatikim nito,” said PDEA deputy regional director Levi Ortiz.
Ramon Platon was already peddling shabu even when he was still the barangay captain of Intaluan, Pototan, according to Ortiz.
He said Platon previously got his stocks from suspected Iloilo City drug lords Melvin “Dragon” Odicta Sr. in Barangay Tanza Esperanza, City Proper and Richard “Buang” Prevendido in Barangay Bakhaw, Mandurriao district.
But after Odicta was killed in August last year and Prevendido went into hiding, Platon found suppliers in Negros Island, Cebu and Mindanao, said Ortiz./PN
