BACOLOD City – A platoon of the Philippine Army’s 62nd Infantry Battalion clashed with 10 armed men around 10 p.m. on Thursday in Barangay Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

The soldiers fired at the armed men who fled to different directions, said Lieutenant Colonel Darrel Bañez, commanding officer of the 62nd Infantry Battalion based in Barangay Bato, Sagay City.

The armed men are believed to be members of the same group that ambushed a certain Bebe Lumayno in Barangay Minapasok last month.

The government troops believe that the rebels had casualties, based on the bloodstains on their escape trail.

Several empty shells, documents and a .45-caliber firearm were recovered from the rebels’ deserted camp, Bañez said.
A hot pursuit operation is being conducted against the rebels./PN
