MANILA – Hercor College Junior Jaguars continued its impressive run and won over Santa Clarita International High School Primes 76-69 in the 14th Mayor’s Cup Basketball Tournament in Dumarao, Capiz.
Raffy Arguelles led the way with 19 points while Jade Clarence Balgos and Janwell Famaranco added 15 markers apiece for Junior Jaguars, which tallied its fourth straight win on Saturday at the Dumarao covered gym.
Junior Jaguars may secure the top seed heading into the knockout semifinals on July 29 depending on the outcome of the Hua Siong-CenterPhil Montessori Silver Knights match, which was being played as of press time.
Junior Jaguars and Primes were engaged in a tight battle almost the entire match but the former managed to hang tough until the end behind key baskets from Arguelles and Balgos.
Franc Steven Tono top-scored with 16 points while Wilmer Dalumpines and Gian Paul Nahine had 13 and 10 points, respectively, for Primes, which missed the services of stars Ralph Bajon, Kent Lindero and Kimrey Servano.
In the other match, Silver Knights got back on the winning track after a lopsided 97-47 victory over Bethany. Ronald Silorio and Wilmar Silverio had 14 and 10 points, respectively, for Silver Knights.
Junior Jaguars is currently in solo first place 4-1, followed by Hua Siong (3-1), Primes (3-2), St. Roberts International Panda Rockets (2-3), Silver Knights (2-2), and Bethany (0-5)./PN
