ILOILO City – Today, the city government will launch “Ochenta Kwerdas” (80 strings of guitar), which aims to gather Ilonggo artists in the metropolis, at Esplanade 3 (Marina Site).
“Ochenta Kwerdas was conceptualized by Mayor Jed Patrick Mabilog to unite all artists, especially guitarists, to preserve Ilonggo music and, at the same time, offer entertainment, expose these artists and inspire aspiring artists,” said City Tourism Officer Junel Ann Divinagracia.
This is one of the activities in line with the 80th Charter Day celebration.
Divinagracia suggested that the artists come up with ideas on how to sustain the gathering.
“There are a lot of guitarists performing in various radio stations in the city, so this event will be an opportunity to gather them in one setting to showcase their talents and skills,” she said.
PG Zoluaga, who was tapped to lead the artists, said there were already at least 20 bands that signified to join as of this writing.
Each band is composed of four to five members.
Zoluaga commended the initiative of the city hall. He said they were proposing to hold the activity every weekend. (Iloilo City PIO/PN)
