ILOILO City – A barangay councilman of Banban, Buenavista, Guimaras faces illegal drug and illegal gun possession charges.
According to the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6, an undercover officer bought from 45-year-old Artemio Caridad two sachets of shabu for P2,200 yesterday around 8:30 a.m. in Barangay San Nicholas, Buenavista.
Twenty-two more sachets of shabu, a .38 revolver and a .22 revolver were recovered from the suspect’s possession.
The buy-bust was a joint operation of PDEA and Buenavista police.
Senior Inspector Jefrey Ferrer, Buenavista police chief, said Caridad was a “high-value” target they have been monitoring since last year.
Caridad surrendered to the Buenavista police station in 2016 but claimed he was only a drug user, not a pusher.
“We continued monitoring his activities even after he surrendered last year. We learned he was selling to some drug users in the province,” said Ferrer.
Caridad was detained at the Buenavista police station.
As of this writing, the police and PDEA were trying to convince Caridad to divulge his supplier./PN
