ILOILO City – Security guards at the Chief Justice Ramon Q. Avanceña Hall of Justice have pulled out.
Policemen are now securing the edifice. These cops are from the Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) and Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
According to Superintendent Gilbert Gorero, spokesperson of the Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6), they were told that the contract of Metro Manila-based Eaglematrix Security Agency with the Supreme Court had ended and was not renewed.
A source said financial issues may have forced the security agency to pull out its men. Panay News sought clarification from Supreme Court spokesperson Atty. Theodore Te but he appeared clueless.
“I have no info on that; will ask the appropriate office and revert back to you,” Te replied.
Gerry Hiñosa, area manager of Eaglematrix, confirmed to Panay News that their contract ended already. But he said he had no idea why it was not renewed.
“Wala lang ko kabalo kay ang head office kag ang Supreme Court ang naga-istorya sina eh,” said Hiñosa.
He further told Panay News he learned that their agency won’t be securing the Hall of Justice anymore only last week, July 28.
Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, regional police director, ordered the deployment of policemen to the Hall of Justice upon the request of Executive Judge Gloria Madero, said Gorero.
The cops would secure the Hall of Justice until the Supreme Court had chosen a new security agency, he added.
ICPO director Senior Superintendent Remus Zacharias Canieso declined to disclose the number of personnel deployed to the Hall of Justice but said these were “enough.”
Policemen will be securing the Hall of Justice round the clock.
The Hall of Justice houses 18 branches of Regional Trial Court (RTC), four branches of the Municipal Trial Court in Cities (MTCC) of Iloilo City, the Iloilo Provincial Prosecution Offices, the Iloilo City Prosecution Offices, Office of the Regional Prosecutor, Public Attorney’s Office, and Regional Parole and Probation Offices, Offices of the Clerks of Court of RTC and MTCC, Office of the Integrated Bar of the Philippines-Iloilo Chapter, the Philippine Mediation Center, and RTC library.
Eaglematrix’s security guards’ last shift at the Hall of Justice ended at 8 o’clock last night. But as early as 4 p.m., policemen already started taking their posts at the building on Bonifacio Drive.
Eaglematrix has been providing security services to Halls of Justices in Iloilo, Capiz, Kalibo, Negros Occidental, Negros Oriental, Cebu, Bohol and Mindanao these past eight year years, said Hiñosa.
For Western Visayas alone, Hiñosa said, they deployed over 60 security guards to Halls of Justices. (With a report from Prince Golez/PN)
