BORACAY – The bird flu outbreak in San Luis, Pampanga may affect the supply of poultry products in the island.
Restaurants, hotels, bakeries, fast food chains, and poultry product retailers may be affected by the possible supply shortage.
Contingency plans were made for the situation. Chicken eggs are in demand in the island with an estimated 1-million monthly consumption.
Quarantine personnel of the Caticlan jetty port seized about 156,000 eggs and dressed chicken last week in the wake of the outbreak.
About 6,000 balut, 10 live chickens and four dressed chickens were also confiscated on Aug. 13.
Moreover, the same personnel intercepted 150,000 chicken eggs and 20,000 quail eggs carried by a ten-wheeler truck from Batangas around 2:30 a.m. on Aug. 15.
“The poultry products were returned to their point of origin,” said Caticlan port administrator Niven Maquirang.
The Department of Agriculture banned shipment of poultry products from Luzon to Visayas and Mindanao to prevent further spread of the disease. (Aklan Forum Journal/PN)
