KALIBO, Aklan ¬ – A meteorology station, or a meteostation, was planned to be set up in Batan, Aklan. Air monitoring stations were also eyed in the town and in Boracay.
“I have coordinated with the local government officials of Batan. I learned that Batan is in need of rain gauges,” said Philippine Nuclear Research Institute (PNRI) researcher Raymond Sucgang.
The proposed meteostation will detect wind speed, wind direction and humidity, among others.
“This is to predict impending storms,” explained Sucgang.
The meteostation, as a part of PNRI’s air monitoring project, will be put up beside an air monitoring station.
Last week, Sucgang went to Boracay to look for a site for the other air station.
These air stations will monitor air pollution by identifying the quantity and types of pollutants in the air.
Air samplers who will collect data for the projects will be needed, said Sucgang.
Another air station is also eyed to be built in Banga, Aklan./PN
