BACOLOD City – Three suspected members of the Arnold “Aki” Cuadra robbery group were arrested in Barangay Bata.
Police identified them as Paul Martin Duque, Alvin Jimenez and Jhonnie Villarete, all residents of Purok Riverside in the village.
They were arrested on Aug. 18 after allegedly robbing a pharmacy in Silay City, a police report showed.
They were also suspects in holding up a delivery van at the circumferential road in Barangay Mandalagan around 4:30 p.m. on the same day.
Police said the group was also responsible for a series of robberies in Silay and Talisay cities.
These included the case of the 21-year-old Edmark Esmeralda and Hernan Hilado, 23, both residents of Barangay Gomez, Pontevedra, Negros Occidental.
Esmeralda and Hilado – when found to have no money – were struck by the suspects on the head with a gun, police said.
Another incident in Barangay Banago victimized the 39-year-old David Doromal Jr.
Recovered from the suspects were a .45-caliber firearm and an improvised gun called sulpak.
Duque, Jimenez and Villarete were detained at the Silay City police station.
Last month, the Bacolod City Police Office director Senior Superintendent Jack Wanky ordered the arrest of the members of the notorious Cuadra group.
This was after a businessman and his daughter were held up in front of their house at Capitol Heights in Barangay Villamonte around 8:30 p.m. on July 25.
Last week, the Sangguniang Panlungsod asked the BCPO to step up its operations against the spate of robberies in the city.
In a resolution approved on Aug. 15, Councilor Ricardo Tan recommended that BCPO deploy officers to “strategic areas” and “engage civilian volunteer groups.”
Moreover, businessmen offered cash rewards to anyone who can provide information on the whereabouts of the robbery group and other crime groups./PN
