ILOILO City – A 48-year-old gunsmith was arrested yesterday in Barangay Sinundulan, San Remigio, Antique.
Policemen recovered from Junie Bacencio’s house assorted homemade firearms.
After the raid around 4:55 a.m. Bacencio was taken to the San Remigio police station.
Judge Ernesto Abijay of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 10 in San Jose Antique issued the search warrant for the raid on Bacencio’s house.
Policemen found the following from the suspect’s house:
* eight 12-gauge shotguns
* .38 revolver
* five damaged 12-gauge shotguns
* damaged .22 revolver
* ammunitions
The police also recovered equipment used in repairing and manufacturing guns – welding machine, electronic grinder, hammer, electric drill, sander, and claw hammer.
According to Inspector Efren Espanto, San Remigio police chief, Bacencio admitted manufacturing homemade firearms and accepting gun repair jobs.
“Matagal na siyang gumagawa ng baril, tulong sa kanilang pamumuhay. But what he was doing was illegal,” said Espanto.
Bacencio faces a charge for violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act./PN
