ILOILO City – The Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG) raided the house of a former barangay tanod of Tacas, Jaro district and recovered unlicensed firearms and ammunitions early morning yesterday.
From his house, the 41-year-old Ricardo Trabuco was taken to the Jaro police station.
The suspect would be charged with violating the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act, said Senior Superintendent Francisco Esguerra, CIDG Region 6 director.
The raid was carried out around 5 a.m. The CIDG secured a search warrant from Judge Gloria Madero of the Regional Trial Court, Branch 29.
CIDG operatives recovered a .45 pistol, four magazines, 25 ammunitions, and a holster.
“We received reports that he often fired his gun and he used the gun in his illegal activities,” said Esguerra.
Citing intelligence information, Esguerra said Trabuco was a down line of fugitive suspected drug lord Richard Prevendido.
The suspect had a pending case for illegal drugs in court, added Esguerra.
The police chief of Pototan, Iloilo, Senior Inspector Bonifacio Alabe, confirmed that sometime in 2014 Trabuco was among the suspects they arrested in a raid of a house for illegal drugs in Barangay Ginacas.
However, Trabuco was able to post bail, said Alabe.
The other person arrested in that Pototan raid was Ernesto Bolivar, suspected leader of the Bolivar group. He, too, posted bail, Alabe said.
The Bolivar group was a gun-for-hire group, he added./PN
