MANILA – Filipino boxer Carlo Caesar Peñalosa captured the vacant Philippine Boxing Federation (PBF) light flyweight belt with a third round stoppage win over Vincent Bautista at the Makati Cinema Square Boxing Arena.
With the victory, the 24-year-old Peñalosa, a native of San Carlos City, Negros Occidental, bagged his first-ever professional boxing title since starting his career in 2015.
Peñalosa showed aggressiveness early on by throwing numerous combinations, including a stinging left straight that wobbled his much experienced opponent Bautista late in the opening round.
Bautista also made his presence felt in the next round with his own punches but Peñalosa was unstoppable with his quick attacks until referee decided to end the match late in the third period.
With the victory, Peñalosa improved his boxing record to 9-1-0 with three wins coming by way of knockouts.
On the other hand, Bautista’s boxing slate fell to 5-9-4 with one stoppage victory.
In the co-main event, Ilonggo boxer Edsil Jungco snapped his sixth bout losing skid after scoring a unanimous decision victory over the erstwhile unbeaten boxer Aurelio Angel.
In the undercard of the match promoted by Kate Jaucian of Black Unicorn International Promotions, Filipina boxer Carleans Rivas scored a majority decision win over Floryvic Montero./PN
