ILOILO – To decongest the national highway in the northern and central parts of the province, the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) is building g three bypass roads.

Costing a total of P394 million, these will be constructed in Passi City and the towns of Zarraga and Barotac Nuevo.

The bypass road in Passi City will be 2.7 kilometers long, with six spans and 30-meter pre-stressed concrete girder (PSCG) type IV-B bridge, including approaches and slope protection along Iloilo-Capiz Road. It will cost P143 million.

Trucks that ply the Iloilo-Capiz Road may soon traverse this bypass road, serving as alternate route for hauling when transporting sugarcane to and from the sugar mills, without passing through the busy Passi.

Meanwhile, the P100-million bypass road in Zarraga will be 1.20 kilometers of portland concrete cement pavement (PCCP) with slope protection.

The bypass road in Barotac Nuevo, Junction Iloilo East Coast Capiz Road will cover 1.78 kilometers and cost P151 million.

DPWH secretary Mark Villar said the completion of these bypass roads would boost the economic activities and improve the transport of goods and services in Iloilo.

DPWH is currently undertaking the second phase of the P500-million Kalibo Circumferential Road in Aklan.
The project covers a new bridge stretching 750 lineal meters, including approaches and right-of-way. It has a budget of P250 million. (PIA-Iloilo/PN)
