ILOILO – Police in Dueñas staged yesterday a buy-bust operation that led to the arrest of the No. 1 drug suspect in town.
At a waiting shed in Calle Canal, Barangay Capuling at around 7:45 a.m., Francisco Panerio sold to an undercover officer a sachet of suspected shabu for P500.
Five more sachets of the same substance were seized from the 51-year-old villager.
Police estimated the street value of the seized suspected shabu at P6,000.
“Francisco (Panerio) is No. 1 on our drug list,” said Senior Inspector Rowena Huber, Dueñas police officer-in-charge.
“He surrendered when Tokhang was launched,” Huber said, using the other term for the Philippine National Police’s intensified antidrug drive Oplan Double Barrel.
The government started the more stringent crackdown on drug trafficking when Rodrigo Duterte took office as president last year.
Panerio stopped peddling prohibited drugs after turning himself in to the authorities but returned to the trade months later, the Dueñas police said, citing their six-month surveillance of the suspect.
Panerio was detained at the Dueñas police station custodial facility. He is facing charges for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002./PN
