MANILA – Eric Giganto scored the go-ahead goal as Kaya-Makati Football Club scored a 2-1 victory over Meralco Manila Sparks Football Club in the 2017 Philippines Football League at the University of Makati.
With the game entering the final minute of regulation and both teams deadlock at 1-1, Kaya-Makati gained the advantage as Giganto scored from a pass by Jordan Mintah with two minutes left in the match.
“I’m so happy. I know the team worked so hard. I came off from the bench, and I knew that the coaching staff had a lot of expectations on me. So when I came in, I just did my best and performed my game. A goal, a win, it’s such a nice feeling,” said Giganto.
After missing their first few attempts, Kaya-Makati was able to break the scoreless deadlock midway in the opening half as Kenshiro Daniels passed the ball to Mintah from inside the box.
Just before the halftime break, Meralco Manila Sparks was able to tie the count at 1-1 as Lee Jeongmin converted his free kick by chesting the ball down and side footing it into the net.
“It’s a very important three points for us. We’re very happy to get the result. As I said before, this game was a test of consistency for both clubs. I think my players prevailed in this,” said Kaya-Makati head coach Noel Marcaida.
With the win, Kaya-Makati improves to 41 points in 23 outings, just three behind the league leader Meralco Manila Sparks. The team will be returning to action tonight to face Ceres-Negros Football Club at Panaad Park and Stadium in Bacolod City./PN
