ILOILO City – A total of 95 living centenarians from this city, Iloilo and Guimaras provinces received letters of felicitation from President Rodrigo Duterte sent through the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) yesterday.

Eighty-three of them recently got their P100,000 cash gift. Yesterday, 12 more got their financial incentives.

Meanwhile, the families of 48 centenarians who already died received posthumous plaques of recognition.

“Ginahatagan naton sang dungog ang aton centenarians by virtue of Republic Act 10868 or the Centenarian Act of 2016,” said Judith-Tanate Barredo, focal person for older persons of DSWD Region 6.

Under the law, Filipinos 100 years old, whether residing in the Philippines or abroad, will receive awards and incentives that include a centenarian gift of P100,000 and a letter of felicitation signed by the President.

Barredo said Western Visayas has a total of 360 centenarians; of these, 348 (including the 12 yesterday) already got their cash gifts.

The turnover ceremony yesterday was held at Hotel del Rio in Molo district./PN
