ROXAS City – City hall is currently without electricity after an apparent wiring trouble that prompted response from firefighters and led to the temporary disconnection of the building’s power supply.
Bureau of Fire Protection (BFP) investigators have yet to identify the cause and source of the smoke that emanated from the building at around 8 p.m. on Tuesday.
Senior Fire Officer 1 Larry Baluis said they rushed to the city hall after a resident informed them about a heavy smoke billowing from the Kabalikat Civic Center.
Initially, BFP personnel traced the smoke to an electricity control panel but found no burned wiring.
Then “we suspected that the smoke came from city hall’s main (power) line buried underground, so we asked the Capiz Electric Cooperative to temporarily cut off the building’s power supply,” Baluis told this reporter. “The smoke eventually faded.”
Baluis said they could “sense” the smoke was caused by burnt electrical wiring.
Moreover, “I was informed by the electrical engineer that they conducted repairs on the main electrical distributor and found plenty of rats passing through holes,” said the fire officer.
City hall will remain without electricity until the BFP has completed its investigation into the incident, probers said./PN
