BACOLOD City – Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) president Roy Cordova and members of power groups wanted the hearing of the motion for reconsideration (MR) against the Energy Regulatory Commission (ERC) June 27 order be held in the city.
“We asked the help of congressmen and city officials in requesting the ERC to hold the hearing in Bacolod so that all member-consumers can participate,” Cordova said.
In response, Councilor Caesar Distrito said he will author a resolution that will urge the ERC to conduct the hearing in the city.
Distrito said the ERC must give affected consumers a chance to participate in the hearing, in the spirit of “fairness and transparency.”
Rep. Greg Gasataya – who earlier filed a resolution urging the House energy committee to look into the ERC order – said he is willing to help the power groups.
Gasataya added that he has yet to receive official communication from the power groups.
The hearing will discuss the MR that the Social Action Center of the Disocese of Bacolod filed on Oct. 4.
The MR challenged the ERC order authorizing Ceneco to charge its member-consumers a monthly additional P0.0817 per kilowatt-hour fee for 50 months until it fully pays its P232,010,090 contract balance with Kepco-Salcon Power Corp.
The unpaid contract quantity covered the period July 26, 2011 to Nov. 25, 2013.
On Oct. 17, the Ceneco Board of Directors passed Resolution No. 11921 suspending the implementation of the ERC order.
On the same day, the Ceneco board also approved Resolution No. 11920 seeking clarification with the ERC when the additional charge must collected.
Before the board meeting on Oct. 17, several groups also filed a petition asking Ceneco not to implement the ERC order./PN
