ILOILO City – The Police Regional Office 6 (PRO-6) is mobilizing some 5,000 police personnel to secure MassKara Festival participants and visitors in Bacolod City.

The street and arena dance competitions started yesterday until today.

On Wednesday, the PRO-6 deployed 410 police officers to Bacolod City to augment the 4,365 cops it sent there last week.

According to Chief Superintendent Cesar Hawthorne Binag, regional police director, ensuring a crime-free MassKara is the goal.

The PRO-6 has imposed an eight-day gun ban in Bacolod City from Oct. 16 to 23. All gun licenses and permits to carry outside of residence have been suspended.

Only law enforcers are allowed to carry guns but they have to be in proper uniform and on duty.

Binag urged spectators to secure their belongings at all times, be security-conscious and always be responsible for the safety of their children.

The bringing of glass bottles, deadly weapons, backpacks and flying of drones in festival activity areas have been prohibited, he added.

Police assistance centers have been set up along major highways, in hotels, malls, churches, transport terminals, tourist destinations, and seaports, among others.

According to Binag, the PRO-6 is also tapping Barangay Peacekeeping Action Teams and village watchmen as force multipliers./PN
