ILOILO City – The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) Iloilo urged people planning to travel by sea this Nov. 1 and 2 (All Saints’ Day and All Souls’ Day) to secure their ship tickets early to avoid delays.
Lieutenant Commander Ramil Palabrica said PCG Iloilo would be on red alert status beginning tomorrow.
The agency’s Oplan Ligtas Byahe ends on Nov. 5.
Boat passengers would be bodily frisked and their luggage thoroughly inspected for contrabands such as illegal drugs, loose guns and other deadly weapons. Dogs trained to detect these things would be used.
“Those intending to travel by sea should avoid overcrowding. We expect a big volume of people traveling,” said Palabrica.
PCG Iloilo would be setting up help desks at seaports / wharves in Barangay Loboc, La Paz district; Iloilo Domestic Port (Fort San Pedro Drive), Iloilo River wharf, Iloilo-Guimaras jetty port, Parola wharf, Ortiz wharf, and in Guimaras province (Jordan wharf and Buenavista wharf).
“We will check, too, if boats have enough life jackets,” said Palabrica.
PCG Iloilo will be coordinating, too, with the Maritime Industry Authority, Philippine Ports Authority, Iloilo City Police Office, Philippine Coast Guard Auxiliary and volunteers./PN
