THE Technology Transfer Day will be held Friday at the vast Iloilo Convention Center, Megaworld Boulevard, Mandurriao in Iloilo City.
It was learned that the Region-6 office of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST-6) has intensified its efforts to developa vibrant ecosystem for the transfer and adoption of Filipino technologies into the mainstream market.
The event is organized as venue to allow technology generators and prospective technology adoptors to negotiate the transfer of DOST-matured technologies and ensure that the concerned parties will benefit.
This highlights the journey of DOST and its partners in revolutionizing Filipino science and technology to be more relevant and responsive to the needs of the local industry.
It is a unique opportunity for investors, enterprises, and organizations to capitalize on the solutions offered by homegrown technologies in the areas of agricultural productivity, industry competitiveness, countryside development, environment and disaster risk reduction management, and quality healthcare.
Highlights of the event include breakout sessions on the different thematicareas.
These include Food Processing Technologies, Aquaculture and Fisheries Technologies and Agro-Forestry and Natural Fibers.
It will also include awarding of Technology Licensing Agreements to adopters, presentation of incentives under the 2017 Investment Priorities Plan (IPP), Presentation of Guidelines/IRR of ITech, Awarding/Reporting of Outputs of Consultations/Negotiations, and Report of the Fairness Opinion Board’s Evaluation.
The one-day event primarily aims to promote and facilitate the transfer, dissemination, and effective use, management, and commercialization of intellectual property, technology and knowledge resulting from research and development funded by the government for the benefit of the national economy, as well asthe taxpayers.
It was made possible through the enactment of Republic Act 10055, or the Philippine Technology Transfer Act of 2009, and partnerships and linkages among scientists, researchers, innovators, inventors, entrepreneurs, and industry players in the country.
The technologies which will be featured in the event are only among the numerous products of the DOST’s research and development during the recent years.
The featured innovations were selected based on pre-event interest from potential investors as well as for their relevance in the Philippine context.
Meanwhile, the different S&T interventions have been aggressively delivered with the implementation of the Small Enterprise Technology Upgrading Program (SETUP).
The program is a nationwide strategy to encourage and assistmicro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs) as well as private and government institutions to implement technological innovations in order to enhance their competitiveness and support the economic development in the countryside.
It was gathered that the program enables beneficiaries to address their technical problems through technology transfer and technology interventions to improve product quality, develop human resources, minimize cost, enhance waste management, and other operation-related activities.
The program rationalizes and links all DOST services to address the technological needs of MSMEs with the support and cooperation of DOST Provincial S&T Centers (PSTCs), DOST research and development institutes (RDIs), councils and other institutes of the department.
Under the program, different modalities of technology transfer interventions and provision of technical services are provided in order to attain its objectives. (jaypeeyap@ymail.com/PN)
