KALIBO, Aklan – The Provincial Health Office (PHO) is appealing to Aklanons to participate more in blood donation activities.
PHO has a target number of blood bag collection – one percent of Aklan’s population – which must be reached by the end of the year.
The province has a population of 600,348. Its one percent is 6,003.
Based on the target, the province must collect 1,500 bags of blood every quarter, according to Provincial Health Officer I Cornelio Cuachon.
However, only 2,426 bags were collected from January to September from mass blood donation activities that local government units conducted.
On a positive note, there are municipalities which have already attained more than one percent of their respective blood target collections.
The PHO, Philippine Red Cross, Aklan Blood Coordinating Council, and other health organizations are tapping private organizations to help the province achieve its blood bag target collection in the last quarter of the year. (PIA/PN)
