FOTON Tornadoes remained unscathed in the Chooks To Go-Philippine Superliga Grand Prix after its 25-22, 25-22, 25-16 sweep of Generika-Ayala Life Savers yesterday at the University of St. La Salle –Bacolod gym.
Serbian reinforcement Sara Klisura led the way with 18 points, on 15 attacks and three service aces, for the defending champion Tornadoes, which tied Petron Blaze Spikers on top with a 3-0 win-loss slate.
Life Savers were on top for most of the opening set until Tornadoes charged back with hits from Klisura and Jaja Santiago to take a 21-20 lead. Klisura went to score 3 more points to complete Tornadoes’ turnaround in the set.
Both teams had a tight exchange in the second set. The scores tied at 20-all but an error by llongga Fiola Ceballos of Life Savers and consecutive points from Klisura and Santiago allowed Tornadoes to build a 2-0 set lead.
Unlike in the first two sets, Tornadoes had a quick start in the third behind Klisura and Santiago for a 12-5 lead. The lead rose 16-8 before Life Savers rallied to come to within 13-18, but Klisura regained her form to complete Tornadoes’ straight-set win.
“It is good to have a 3-0 start but we still have a lot to improve on,” said Tornadoes head coach Moro Branislav. “There are still some errors but I am confident we can fix that in our next games.”
The defeat pushed Life Savers down the rankings: fifth place, with a 1-2 win-loss card./PN
