MANILA – Petron Blaze Spikers made a quick work of the Victoria Sports-University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses, 25-16, 25-14, 25-14, to get back on the winning track in the Chooks To Go – Philippine Superliga Grand Prix at San Juan Arena.
After suffering its defeat of the season to F2 Logistics Cargo Movers (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 25-22) in Bacolod City, the Blaze Spikers vented its ire on the Golden Tigresses to conquer its fourth win in five games on Thursday.
Ilongga Aiza Maizo-Pontillas led the way with 10 points while Mary Remy Palma and American import Lindsay Stalzer chipped in with eight markers apiece for the Blaze Spikers.
“This is a great bounce back win for us,” said Blaze Spikers head coach Ceseal Delos Santos. “After our loss to F2, we wanted to regain our confidence and I am glad that we were able to do that against UST.”
The Blaze Spikers were so dominant that it posted a 45-26 advantage against the Golden Tigresses in attacks. They also tallied a season-low 16 errors in the match.
Mary Dominique Pacres finished with 10 points while Japanese import Yukie Inamasu added eight markers for the Golden Tigresses, which suffered its second loss in as many games.
In the first game, Generika-Ayala Life Savers bucked the absence of key players to hack out a 25-16, 25-15, 25-21 straight-set victory over the also undermanned Iriga City Lady Oragons.
Croatian Katerina Pilepic finished with 15 kills, three aces and two blocks for 20 points while Angeli Araneta chipped in 13 markers for the Lifesavers, which improved to 2-3 win-loss card./PN
