BACOLOD City – “It was sabotage.”
This was how Mayor Evelio “Bing” Leonardia described the attempt of four male minors to put janitor fishes in the fountain fronting the Bacolod City Government Center (BCGC) on Oct. 30.
This paper has inaccurately reported that the minors got the janitor fishes from the fountain but it was learned that they attempted to put the fishes to the fountain using two plastic buckets.
Public Order and Safety Office (POSO) personnel saw them but only one was apprehended. The three managed to escape.
The 8-year-old boy was then turned over to the Bacolod City Police Office (BCPO) Women and Children’s Protection Desk and the Department of Social Services and Development.
The boy told the police that his “tito” told them to release the janitor fishes to the fountain.
The fountain houses Koi fishes, considered as one of the attractions in the BCGC.
Leonardia said he wants an in-depth probe into the incident. He added that he will talk to Executive Assistant Celestino Guara, POSO head.
Leonardia wants to know who commanded the minors.
He added that he only learned about the incident through social media. He was not at the BCGC when it happened, he explained.
“I was horrified when I saw the picture of the janitor fishes. The size of the janitor fish, sa pagtan-aw ko pwede niya malamon ang mga Koi,” said Leonardia.
The mayor has advised POSO personnel to guard the area.
The BCPO will also deploy police personnel to the fountain area at night./PN
