ILOILO City – A sport utility vehicle rammed four houses in Barangay Guzman-Jesena, Mandurriao district while a cargo van fell on its side on the circumferential road in Barangay Buhang, Jaro.
There were no casualties in the two crashes that occurred just hours apart but three people were sent to hospitals.
A Mitsubishi Montero Sport ploughed the four houses along San Miguel-Mandurriao-Aleosan Road at around 5 a.m. on Friday, a police report showed.
Mary Grace Badiola, 43, who was sleeping in one of the houses, was injured. She was taken to The Medical City hospital, also in Mandurriao. A companion, 24-year-old Jowen Aguado, complained of body pains.
The car driver – Michael Angelo Vidallon, 23, of Parc Regency subdivision in Pavia, Iloilo – was arrested and detained at the Mandurriao police station.
He was facing charges for driving under the influence of liquor and reckless imprudence resulting in damage to properties and physical injuries, the police report stated.
The houses incurred various degrees of damage. Police identified the owners as:
* Gloria Fallorina, 67
* Nona Segovia, 55
* Agapito Galon, 75
* Sunny Chua, 32
Aside from the houses, the Mitsubishi Montero Sport also crashed against a parked Suzuki Hatchback owned by Ramyr Coloso Elizalde.
More than six hours later, at around 11:45 a.m., a Fuso aluminum van owned by Maxximiler Distributors, Inc. swerved and fell on its side along the circumferential road in Barangay Buhang, Jaro, another police report showed.
Driver Philip Sandrino, 42, of Barangay Santa Cruz, San Miguel, Iloilo suddenly lost control of the vehicle, police said.
Sandrino and helper Edgar Arellano, 37, of Zone 3 Barrio Obrero, Lapuz complained of body pains. They were taken to the Western Visayas State University Medical Center, also in Jaro.
The Fuso aluminum van also crashed against a parked reefer van owned by the Padilla Reefer Van Corp. The impact caused the latter vehicle to collide into another parked reefer van, said the police./PN
