KALIBO, Aklan – The registration for Ati-Atihan Festival’s street dancing competition is ongoing.
Sadsad Ati-Atihan contest is one of the highlights of the annual festival held in this capital town.
Interested tribes and groups have until Dec. 27 to register in the four categories of the contest, according to festival organizer Kalibo Santo Niño Ati-Atihan Foundation, Inc. (Kasafi).
Tribe leaders may register at the second floor of Capt. Gil Menez Mijares building in the town.
A total of fifteen tribes have already registered, Kasafi said.
Royal Scorpio and Bae-ot Bae-ot registered in the contest’s modern group category while Iwa-Iwa, Tribu Ninolitos, Tribu Bukid Tigayon, Lezo Tribe, and Tribu Responde, in the tribal small category.
Vikings, Tribu Tiis-Tiis and Tribu Alibangbang, on the other hand, will compete with each other in the tribal big category while Malipayong Ati, Kinantuing, Tribu Anono-o, Tribu ni Datu Puti, and Sinikway nga Ati, in the balik ati category.
Sadsad Ati-Atihan contest’s tribal big and tribal small champions will receive P200,000 and P100,000 cash prizes, respectively, said Kasafi chairman Albert Menez.
Champions in the modern group and balik ati categories, meanwhile, will receive P90,000 cash prize each.
The contest will kick off at 8 a.m. on Jan. 20 next year on Kalibo’s major streets.
