ILOILO – The “AmBisyon Natin 2040” program of the national government will be given emphasis before 2,634 Barangay Service Point Officers (BSPOs) of this province when they gather for their annual congress today.
BSPOs are volunteers serving as “extension arms” in the implementation of the Philippine Population Management Program, according to Provincial Population Office (PPO) head Ramon Yee.
The congress will be held at the Pototan Coliseum in Pototan, Iloilo. National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) regional director Ro-ann Bacal is the guest speaker.
According to Yee, BSPOs must have a “better understanding” of AmBisyon Natin so they could align their programs and activities to it.
AmBisyon Natin envisions the kind of lives Filipinos want to live and represents the aspirations Filipinos have for themselves and for the country in the next 25 years.
Citing countrywide consultations, Bacal previously said Filipino families generally dreamed of living a “simple and comfortable life”, with a car of their own, a medium-sized house, college-educated children, and with enough savings to get by every day.
A national survey showed 79.2 percent of Filipinos preferring a middle-class lifestyle, according to Bacal.
The survey also revealed that Filipinos consider hunger, local employment, poverty and housing as primary economic issues that should be addressed and that there is a need for a clean, efficient and service-oriented government, with the eradication of corruption as the most important aspect of government service that should be resolved, she added.
Meanwhile, during the congress, PPO will recognize several outstanding BSPOs.
“They are conducting programs on responsible parenthood and family planning and gathering population data at the barangay level,” said Yee.
A big bulk in their work is collecting up-to-date demographic data which include sex desegregated number of births, deaths and migration data in the barangays.
This year’s congress theme is, “BSPO supports AmBisyon 2040, Mapag-on, Matawhay kag Masulhay nga Pangabuhi sang Tagsa ka Pamilyang Pilipino.”/PN
