BACOLOD City – The Central Negros Electric Cooperative (Ceneco) once again reminded its member-consumers to refrain from using substandard Christmas lights as the holiday season approaches.
Ceneco general manager Sulpicio Lagarde Jr. said the electric cooperative discourages the use of lights or any Christmas product that the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) did not certify, or those without an ICC (Import Commodity Clearance) mark.
Lagarde added that member-consumers must not leave Christmas lights switched on and unattended for it its electrical wirings may start fire.
According to Lagarde, some people are fond of buying substandard Christmas lights because these items are cheaper.
Last week, the Sangguniang Panlungsod approved a resolution urging Bacolodnons to patronize DTI-certified Christmas products.
Resolution proponent Councilor Bartolome Orola said this is to make sure that Bacolodnons will celebrate a “hazard-free holiday season.”
“There is a need to remind the public to be vigilant and extra cautious in choosing the Christmas lights they buy to decorate their homes. This is to prevent any untoward incidents that pose risk at their loved ones,” Orola added./PN
