BACOLOD City – Elements of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) Region 6 raided a drug den in Purok Cagaycay, Barangay 2, which resulted to recovering shabu with an estimated worth of P150,000.

The raid, which was conducted around 8:30 p.m. on Wednesday, led to the arrest of a PDEA high-value target, the 18-year-old resident Carlos Sonico who is also the drug den maintainer, and seven others including a minor.

They were the 33-year-old Kiefer Salnac, the 37-year-old Ernie Magbanua, Wilfredo Diaz, 42, Anthony Cadungo, 44, Wendyl Arsenio, 21, Kerwin Hablero and a 17-year-old boy, a PDEA spot report showed.

PDEA personnel confiscated from the den about 25 sachets of shabu weighing about 30 grams, drug paraphernalia and P2,628 cash, the report further stated.

According to a PDEA agent, they had been conducting surveillance on Sonico for two months prior to the operation.

Village residents had been giving them information, the PDEA agent added.

The seven suspects were detained at the Police Station 2 lockup facility and will be facing charges for violation of sections 5, 6, 7, 11, 12, and 15 of Republic Act (RA) 9165, or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

The minor was turned over to the Social Development Center in Barangay Taculing, according to Police Station 2 commander Chief Inspector Benedicto Villarias.

Moreover, PDEA personnel and police officers arrested a woman in Villa Sta. Maria Subdivision in Barangay Santo Rosario, Binalbagan around 2:30 p.m. on Wednesday.

Chief Inspector Albert Sy, officer-in-charge of the Binalbagan police station, identified the woman as the 45-year-old resident Lilibeth Artajo.

Artajo was caught after selling a sachet of shabu to a poseur buyer for P300.

When frisked, Artajo yielded four more sachets of shabu and drug paraphernalia. Her cellular phone was confiscated, too.

The buy-bust operation was led by PDEA agent Noelle Muñez and Senior Police Inspector Joseph Marcel Rojo.

Muñez and Rojo coordinated with Barangay Santo Rosario village chief Raymund Magbanua.

Artajo was detained at the Binalbagan police station lockup facility and facing charges for violation of RA 9165. (With Mae Singuay/PN)
