ILOILO City – The Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) plans setting up mobile police outposts at Smallville Complex in Barangay San Rafael, Mandurriao district.
This is a crime preventive measure, according to Senior Superintendent Henry Biñas, city police director.
ICPO proposes four outposts at the popular strip of restaurants, bars and hotels that is frequently in the news for clashes among inebriated patrons, mostly youngsters.
Biñas said mobile police outposts may be erected at the two main entrances of Smallville and the two others inside the complex, most likely near crowded restobars.
The outposts would have blinkers to make them easy to spot, said the director.
Each outpost would be manned by at least two police officers, added Biñas.
Following the Dec. 3 fatal shooting of a young man at Smallville, the ICPO posted 22 policemen in the area to augment the cops from the Mandurriao police station.
Biñas reiterated his appeal that all business establishments at Smallville install security cameras.
“These would help us solve crimes,” he said.
Biñas claimed his men were “having strict implementation of (the) curfew (ordinance) for minors” at Smallville.
Last week, Mayor Jose Espinosa proposed that all establishments at Smallville cease their operation by 2 a.m.
Regulation Ordinance No. 2016-230 imposes a curfew on minors from 10 p.m. to 4 a.m.
It also prohibits business establishments (restaurants, nightclubs, motels, dancehalls, amusement places such as Internet cafes, video arcades, karaoke bars, billiard halls, beach resorts and other similar establishments) from admitting minors into their premises during curfew hours and sell to these minors alcoholic beverages./PN
