BACOLOD City – The city government will extend its waste collection services contract with the IPM-Construction Development Corp. (IPM-CDC) for another three months.
This was after the Sangguniang Panlungsod (SP) approved Mayor Evelio Leonardia’s request on Wednesday.
Leonardia wants the IPM-CDC to continue its garbage collection and hauling activities in the city until Mar. 31 next year.
IPM-CDC is the city government’s contractor for waste collection and disposal. Its contract with the city will end on Dec. 31.
Councilor Caesar Distrito, chairman of the SP committee on laws and ordinances, said the city council approved Leonardia’s request after convening members of the Solid Waste Management Board.
The board is composed of representatives from the private and public sectors in the city.
Distrito said the board recommended entering another contract with the IPM-CDC, thus the three-month extension.
Under the procurement law, a local government unit can extent its contract with a service provider for a maximum of four months, said Distrito.
He added that extending the contract with the IPM-CDC was practical since it was “legally impossible” for them to conduct bidding before the year ends.
Distrito said they cannot conduct bidding without next year’s budget being approved.
He added that the SP does not want trash all over the city after the holiday season because “for sure they are overflowing.”
“No one will collect them,” Distrito said.
He added that the SP made sure that the extension contract has the same terms and conditions of the old contract before approving Leonardia’s request./PN
