CERES-University of Saint La Salle stayed on top in the 2nd Sagay Men’s Open Championships after tallying its second straight win in Sagay National High School in Sagay City, Negros Occidental.
Tristan Kit Robles and Klent Guevarra came up with a conversion each to lift the defending champion to a 2-0 victory over host Sagay-North Negros on Sunday.
Sagay-North Negros scored a 2-1 win against University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos (UNO-R) before staying on second place after losing to Ceres-La Salle (6 points).
With first-half conversions from Jerals Paparon and Jimuel Ariola, Sagay-North Negros surged 2-0 before Paul Ancheta of UNO-R cut the deficit with a hit early in the second half.
Reigning UAAP men’s football champion Ateneo de Manila University shared the third place with Villa Angela FC with 4 points on a win and a deadlock.
Ateneo recovered from a 1-1 draw with Sagay-North Negros on Saturday after dominating over Negros Selection 3-1 behind Reno Fekliz Gaudiel’s pair of goals and another from Christian Michael Castillo.
Eliminations will be played until today. The top two teams will advance to the finals on Wednesday./PN
