ILOILO City – A police officer charged with illegal gun possession turned himself over to the Arevalo district police station.
Police Officer 2 Stephen Magno, a 41-year-old resident of Barangay Dulonan, Arevalo, showed up at the police station around 10 a.m. yesterday. Senior Police Officer 2 Danny Yanson, warrant section officer, facilitated his surfacing.
Magno, assigned at the Regional Headquarters Support Group of the Police Regional Office 6, had a pending warrant of arrest issued last July 19, 2017 yet by Judge Daniel Antonio Gerardo Amular of the Regional Trial Court. He was charged with violation of the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulation Act.
On March 5, 2017 at around 5:15 p.m., then regional police director Chief Superintendent Jose Gentiles spotted Magno with a gun inside Camp Delgado. The policeman was then among several cops undergoing a Character Aptitude Development and Enforcement Training (CADET).
All policemen taking the CADET had been disarmed but Gentiles caught Magno with a .45 Colt pistol (serial number SH841015).
Magno’s gun was his personal property. His government-issued firearm (a .45 pistol with serial number BA03420) was already in the custody of the PRO-6.
After he was disarmed, Magno was moved to the Regional Holding and Accounting Unit of the PRO-6.
He was meted a one-month suspension and was filed with a criminal charge./PN
