MANILA – A total of 22,198 families – or 89,962 individuals – in Albay were affected by the Mayon volcano’s spewing of ash flumes and lava as of Monday, National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC) executive director Ricardo Jalad revealed.
They included residents of 59 barangays in Bacacay, Camalig, Daraga, Guinobatan, Malilipot, and Santo Domingo towns, and Ligao, Tabaco and Legazpi cities.
Jalad said 18,291 families (69,425 individuals) were being served in 74 evacuation centers while 2,822 families (11,946 indivisuals) were being aided outside.
Meanwhile, several government agencies, local government units and nongovernment organizations have extended P118,327,244.47 worth of assistance to the affected families, Jalad said.
Among the agencies were the departments of Social Welfare and Development, Health, Education, Labor and Employment, and Environment and Natural Resources, and the Philippine Red Cross.
Jalad also said the cost of damage to agriculture was pegged at P189,434,666 – P160,492,650 for rice, P7,573,696 for corn, P478,000 for abaca, and P20,890,320 for assorted high-value crops. (PNA)
