ILOILO City – Motorcycle-riding gunmen shot a schoolteacher in Barangay Dorong-an, Tigbauan, Iloilo.
With gunshot wounds on both legs and left arm, 27-year-old Lani Tamagos of Barangay Buenavista, Tigbauan was taken to the West Visayas State University Medical Center on Monday.
The Grade 9 Araling Panlipunan teacher of Tigbauan National High School was attacked at 5:30 p.m. while in a tricycle. She was on her way home.
According to fellow passengers of Tamagos, the gunmen motioned for the tricycle to stop.
One of the men then sought out Tamagos who was at the backseat of the tricycle.
The man shot Tamagos four times, said Senior Inspector Hermogenes Eulatic, Tigbauan police chief.
The two men quickly left after the shooting.
Responding policemen recovered from the crime scene four empty shells of a .45 pistol.
“Tamagos was obviously the killers’ target. They did not harm the other tricycle passengers,” said Eulatic.
Tamagos used to teach at Capiz State University. She transferred to Tigbauan National High School only six months ago, said Eulatic.
“I already sent police investigators to Capiz,” according to the police chief.
The Tigbauan police have also started gathering information from Tamagos’ family.
“For now we could not say if the shooting was work-related. Wala man siya kuno kaaway diri sa school,” said Eulatic.
The Tigbauan police hoped to come up with a cartographic sketch or photos of the two gunmen. A security camera of the municipal police installed in the area where the shooting happened was able to record the shooting.
According to Eulatic, descriptions of the two gunmen from other passengers of the tricycle would further help investigators identify the culprits./PN
