TEN members of the Iloilo Provincial Chess Association (IPCA) advanced to the national finals of the 2018 National Age Group and Executive Chess Championships after making it to the top three in the Visayas leg on Jan. 28 at CityMall in Kalibo, Aklan.
Among them were category champions Muellene Babao (girls under 10), Checy Telesforo (girls under 14), Cyril Telesforo (boys under 16), and Adrian de Luna (boys under 14).
Also moving on to the next level were second place finishers Horizon Villanueva (executive category), Vaughn Robert Oberio (boys under 8) and Reynald Tejero (boys under 16).
Completing the finalists from the IPCA were bronze medalists Kimberly Colaste (girls under 12), Fiona Geeweneth Guirhem (girls under 18) and Angelo Gabriel Balboa (boys under 10).
The top three in the national finals will become part of Team Philippines that will compete in the ASEAN Age Group Chess Championship in June.
Other IPCA players in the Visayas leg were John De Asis, Alex Provido, Nemesio Orlina III, Hubert Canto, Wenseal Magoliman, Jovelyn Sepanton, Archie Jamotillo, Kieth Camique, Kith Magoliman, Kurt Ladot, Andrei Salvador, Jemuel Misajon, John Padios, Joshua Tanate, and Jorge Estil./PN
