ILOILO City – The chairperson of the Barangay Agrarian Reform Council of Devera, Sara, Iloilo was charged with illegal gun possession yesterday before the Iloilo Provincial Prosecutors’ Office.
No bail was recommended for the temporary liberty of 68-year-old Roberto Del Castillo.
“If there are more than three different kind of guns recovered, no bail for the offense charged,” explained Police Officer 2 Francis John Aricaya, Sara police station investigator.
The following were recovered from Del Castillo’s house during a raid on Tuesday: two 12-gauge shotguns, a .22 rifle and a .45 pistol.
Policemen also recovered an assortment of bullets.
At the Sara police station where he was detained, Del Castillo claimed he kept guns to defend himself from lawless elements and rebel attacks.
He, however, did not say why the rebels would target him.
Aricaya said the Sara police station was investigating further if the suspect had shady activities such as gun-for-hire services or for links to criminal groups.
Del Castillo’s house was raided around 6 a.m. on Tuesday. He failed to present gun licenses and the only one he had for the .45 pistol was already expired.
