ILOILO City ā Three passengers robbed a taxi driver late Wednesday night at San Lorenzo Subdivision, Barangay Loboc, La Paz district.
Two of the three passengers were minors, according to 47-year-old Edgardo BroƱosa, driver of GDR taxi and resident of Barangay San Juan, Miag-ao, Iloilo.
The holdup happened around 11:30 p.m. BroƱosa said the robbers took his P3,500 collection then fled.
The driver sought the policeās after the robbers disappeared.
Yesterday morning three suspects were arrested in a follow-up operation that the police launched. While the two minors were turned over to the Department of Social Welfare and Development, the third suspect, 21-year-old Caroelo De Guzman of Barangay General Hughes-Montes, City Proper, was detained at the La Paz police station.
The minors were 15 years old and residents of Barangay Baldoza, La Paz.
According to Iloilo City Police Office (ICPO) intelligence chief Superintendent Allan Macapagal, the suspects boarded BroƱosoās taxi at around 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday in Barangay Dungon A, Jaro district and asked to be taken to San Lorenzo Subdivision.
BroƱosa said De Guzman had a gun.
According to the taxi driver, he tried to take the gun away from De Guzman but one of the minors who had a knife threatened to stab him.
BroƱosa said he was eventually overpowered.
āI did not have a choice anymore but to give them my money,ā he said.
De Guzman actually pulled the trigger but the gun malfunctioned, said BroƱosa.
At the La Paz police station, De Guzman said killing the driver was not in their plan.
āWe were only after the money,ā he said.
