ILOILO – The financier of the illegal numbers game “bookies” in northern Iloilo is not an Ilonggo, according to the Iloilo Police Provincial Office (IPPO).
This person is a businessman from Masbate, said Chief Inspector Jonathan Pinuela, IPPO intelligence chief.
The police learned about this illegal gambling financier from “bookies” bet collectors arrested recently in the town of Carles.
“But we have to investigate further. We have not monitored any Iloilo-based illegal gambling financier. Sang una may ara sa province pero subong wala na ga-operate,” said Pinuela.
On Feb. 15 around 10 p.m., Carles policemen raided the house of village councilwoman Analyn Cantero, 59 , in Barangay Bito-on.
Cops were suspicious that the house was being used as remittance office of “bookies” bet collectors.
A suspected bet collector was caught – 18-year-old Kenneth Jay Poligrates of Barangay Naro Cawayan, Masbate.
Cantero was also nabbed.
Pinuela said he was offered a P20,00 bribe money but he spurned it.
“Through their arrest, we confirmed that the ‘bookies’ financier is from Masbate,” said Pinuela.
